Sea Freight
FCL vs LCL: Which Sea Freight Option Fits Your Shipment?
From Jebel Ali, LCL is usual under ~8 CBM; compare FCL from ~12–20 CBM. Documents must match either way. WhatsApp +971 54 706 0040.
This article helps you choose FCL or LCL from Dubai. For sailing schedules and a sea quote, use the sea freight service page — this is not a rate card.
FCL means you book a 20-foot or 40-foot container for your cargo only. LCL means your CBM shares a container with other shippers.
Cost is not only the ocean rate
LCL looks cheap per CBM until you add origin handling, destination deconsolidation, and extra storage if one shipper's papers fail. FCL has a higher base rate but fewer shared delays.
A simple breakpoint
Under about 8 CBM, start with LCL. From 12–18 CBM ask Elite Cargo for both numbers. From about 20 CBM a 20-foot FCL is often cheaper and cleaner at destination.
Clearance risk
In LCL, one missing certificate in the same box can slow the whole deconsolidation. FCL keeps your declaration isolated. Egypt and Algeria still need complete invoices either way.
When to pick each
Pick LCL for regular small export lots and samples. Pick FCL for furniture, machinery, or a full shop restock. Mixed food and general cargo needs a compatibility check.

Frequently Asked Questions
At what CBM should I switch from LCL to FCL?
Many Dubai exporters compare both from about 12–18 CBM. Below ~8 CBM, LCL is usually cheaper. Above ~20 CBM, a 20-foot FCL often wins.
Is FCL always faster than LCL?
FCL skips origin consolidation and often clears faster at destination. LCL waits for a full box and shares destination deconsolidation.
Can I mix commercial cargo in one LCL booking?
Yes if documents match and goods are compatible. Food, chemicals, and batteries need a check before we consolidate.
Do Egypt and Algeria accept LCL?
Yes. Papers must be as complete as FCL. Language and origin authentication still apply — see the Egypt and Algeria guides.
